Bay Sailing Fun

When Mark Twain said, "The coldest winter I ever experienced was a summer in San Francisco," he must not have had a chance to visit the Richmond Riviera.  Located in the best possible spot on the Bay, the “Richmond Riviera” offers something for everyone.  Not only can you “pick” the wind level sailing out of this harbor, the fog is somehow immune to the area.

When San Francisco's world-famous fog rushes through the Golden Gate and envelops San Francisco, Berkeley, and often-times Sausalito with nature's air-conditioning, those of us at Point Richmond are basking in the sun while those poor souls in the City are wearing their summer fleeces and parkas.

The Real Deal

A no holds barred taste of Bay sailing for the adventure seeker.  This 4+ hour jaunt will provide the adrenaline junky a trip through Raccoon Straits, past Tiburon and Sausalito, across the “slot” to the San Francisco water front and Pier 39, around the corner to AT&T Park, the back side of Yerba Buena Island and along the east shore and Berkeley, back to port.

You-Plan-It

A sail custom tailored to meet your level of adventure.  Talk to Captain Jon about what you’d like to see and experience.   3+ hours.

Easy Does It

A comfortable sail with plenty of fresh air designed for the cautious adventurer or first time sailor.  On this sail we promise two things.  First, you won’t be scared.  Second, you won’t feel short changed.  Slower is sometimes better.  3+ hours.

Each sail will include a snack and beverages (see Snack tab).  We provide all safety equipment as required by the U.S. Coast Guard, and then some.  Not only will you be safe, we’ll ensure you feel safe.

Please take heed mates. Having fun means dressing appropriately, so wear layers.  The perceived temperature will change often based on wind, point of sail and fog so you want to be able to cover up or shed clothes as necessary to stay comfortable.

Typically this means jeans on the bottom with shirt, sweater and shell on top.  If you tend to run cold then add a second layer on the bottom like powder pants over your jeans (or polypro thermal underwear).  A stocking cap is never a bad thing to have in your pocket.  The Real Deal sail will see higher wind and feel much cooler, especially on upwind legs.  Sailing down wind on a fall day, however, is often a T-shirt affair.  The beauty of the Bay is that you can go from bundled up to stripping it all off in a matter of minutes.

Your Bay adventure yacht will be aboard the Wyliecat 30 "Lotta'tude" (top of page headed under "the Gate"), designed and built by a local designer and builder for shorthanded fun (not requiring a big crew of brawny dudes to make it go fast).  Want to drive?  No problem.  Captain Jon is always interested in teaching others how to sail and happy to turn over the helm.

“Lotta’tude” can accommodate 6 passengers, four in the cockpit (on seats) and two up on the coach roof shifting from side to side on tacks.  Sure-footed children are always welcome, but need to follow directions.  Also, please let us know if you have any mobility issues so we can accommodate you as best as possible.

Delta Fun

The Bay Delta is a confluence of the Sacramento and San Juaquin rivers which capture water runoff from Mt. Shasta to Bakersfield and east to the Sierras.  Lets just say it’s HUGE (59,000 square miles of watershed) and accounts for almost all of the water runoff in California.  It all dumps into the San Francisco Bay through the Delta.  So, when you combine lots of water with lots of flat land, the result is lots of miles of quiet waterways… for nothing better than kickin’ back.

Picnic Cruise

This 2+ hour cruise will enable the land lubber a chance to see part of California only accessible by boat and includes a narrative history of the Delta and its critters, past and present.  Along the way there is plenty of time to soak up the sun and go for a dip.  We provide snacks and beverages.

      Rates: weekday/weekend

$85/105 per hour, 2 hour minimum

BBQ Cruise

Make an afternoon of it and enjoy a bbq on the water to keep that energy up.  With a 4 hour cruise, we’ll provide hamburgers and hotdogs grilled up to order.

Rates: weekday/weekend

      $340/400

Tubing

Hop on an inner tube and hang on!  Cool off with an exhilarating ride inches off the water.  Fun for both adults and kids.

Over 21 Party Cruises
Bring 5 of your friends (6 total) and party on the water while Captain Jon is the designated driver.  Explore Delta watering holes with a pub “crawl” cruise and discover the interesting character of each stop.  Lounge, swim and snack between stops.

The
Delta Fun offerings are provided on a 25’ Premier deck boat with plenty of room for 6 passengers.  This isn’t your grand dad’s patio boat!  It’s equipped with three pontoons, lifting strakes and 150 horse power engine to really move along.  You’ll experience the comfort of a big boat with the speed of a small run-a-bout.

Wear your suit and a light cover-up to minimize sun exposure when you've had enough.  A hat and sun screen area also recommended.  The vessel has a canopy to shade part or all of the boat if you are especially sensitive to the sun.
