When Mark Twain said, "The coldest winter I ever experienced was a summer in San Francisco," he must not have had a chance to visit the Richmond Riviera. Located in the best possible spot on the Bay, the “
When San Francisco's world-famous fog rushes through the Golden Gate and envelops San Francisco, Berkeley, and often-times Sausalito with nature's air-conditioning, those of us at Point Richmond are basking in the sun while those poor souls in the City are wearing their summer fleeces and parkas. The Real Deal A no holds barred taste of Bay sailing for the adventure seeker. This 4+ hour jaunt will provide the adrenaline junky a trip through Raccoon Straits, past Tiburon and You-Plan-It A sail custom tailored to meet your level of adventure. Talk to Captain Jon about what you’d like to see and experience. 3+ hours. Easy Does It A comfortable sail with plenty of fresh air designed for the cautious adventurer or first time sailor. On this sail we promise two things. First, you won’t be scared. Second, you won’t feel short changed. Slower is sometimes better. 3+ hours.
Each sail will include a snack and beverages (see Snack tab). We provide all safety equipment as required by the U.S. Coast Guard, and then some. Not only will you be safe, we’ll ensure you feel safe.
Please take heed mates. Having fun means dressing appropriately, so wear layers. The perceived temperature will change often based on wind, point of sail and fog so you want to be able to cover up or shed clothes as necessary to stay comfortable.
Typically this means jeans on the bottom with shirt, sweater and shell on top. If you tend to run cold then add a second layer on the bottom like powder pants over your jeans (or polypro thermal underwear). A stocking cap is never a bad thing to have in your pocket. The Real Deal sail will see higher wind and feel much cooler, especially on upwind legs. Sailing down wind on a fall day, however, is often a T-shirt affair. The beauty of the Bay is that you can go from bundled up to stripping it all off in a matter of minutes.
Your Bay adventure yacht will be aboard the Wyliecat 30 "Lotta'tude" (top of page headed under "the Gate"), designed and built by a local designer and builder for shorthanded fun (not requiring a big crew of brawny dudes to make it go fast). Want to drive? No problem. Captain Jon is always interested in teaching others how to sail and happy to turn over the helm.
“Lotta’tude” can accommodate 6 passengers, four in the cockpit (on seats) and two up on the coach roof shifting from side to side on tacks. Sure-footed children are always welcome, but need to follow directions. Also, please let us know if you have any mobility issues so we can accommodate you as best as possible.
